Pregnancy
There are many exciting changes about to happen in your life
physically, emotionally, and socially - and we want to assure you that chiropractic care is just what you need to help you through these next few months and beyond.
Chiropractic adjustments can help your body as it goes through some dramatic but normal changes in preparation to deliver your newborn.
Keeping your spine subluxation-free during pregnancy helps relieve the discomfort many expectant mothers experience and helps to normalize nervous system function. This is a component of overall good health.
Dr. Korchok will take special precautions with you during pregnancy.
Chiropractic care during pregnancy is a wonderful way to maintain optimum health for both mother and child. Also, since this is a time when medications should be avoided, chiropractic care can safely and effectively help with musculoskeletal pain, nausea, headaches and a host of other conditions.
Chiropractic care also helps during delivery.
Many chiropractic patients report that their deliveries were faster and more comfortable than prior deliveries without chiropractic care.
After delivery, chiropractic is good for mom and the newborn too!
For mom, chiropractic helps ease the mechanical stresses to the pelvic area from labor and delivery. For the newborn, chiropractic helps correct the first subluxation that is induced by the birthing process, which often involves pulling upon and twisting the head and neck, while turning the baby to present the shoulders.
At Dr. Korchok's clinic, we pride ourselves on the utmost care and concern for mom and baby.
Babies & Children
Family care can start at the very beginning.
Babies can benefit when their pregnant mothers receive chiropractic care. A newborn's spine is affected during childbirth, even with today's natural childbirth methods. This first distress to an infant's spine and nervous system can lead to colic, unusual crying, ear infections, erratic sleeping habits, or even nursing difficulties. Studies are now being proposed to see if spinal subluxations of the newborn may be a factor in SIDS.
Newborn adjustments are gentle and designed especially for babies.
Dr. Korchok will take the time to reassure you about the safety and benefits of chiropractic care for your little ones. Head support, crawling and a baby's first steps should be followed by chiropractic checkups. The bumps and falls of rapid growth may cause problems later in life and can set the stage for scoliosis, a weakened immune system and other abnormalities. Chiropractic can help prevent these problems from developing.
Children can also benefit from regular chiropractic care.
Learning to walk, ride a bike or play sports can produce "growing pains" that interfere with proper growth during rapid stages of spinal development.
Many common childhood ailments - ear infections, colic, breathing problems, asthma, and allergies - are the result of vertebral subluxation complex.
By maintaining proper neck and back mechanics, infections are often reduced through a stronger immune system. Chiropractic also assists with proper alignment and posture, which, in turn, opens the natural passages in the ear canal to promote drainage of excess fluids. This also helps children with breathing difficulties, unexplained pains, and more.
Dr. Korchok is skilled in safe and effective chiropractic methods for children.
Your son or daughter's visit will be a pleasant one. We foster a nurturing environment to help you raise a healthy, active, drug-free family.
Children
"But my child's back doesn't hurt! Why would he need chiropractic care?"
Whether we're looking at an infant or a senior citizen, one fact remains consistently true
the body's nervous system controls and coordinates every cell, tissue, and organ in the body. Chiropractors detect and correct interference to normal nerve transmission, so the body can function at peak efficiency.
The Chiropractic & Sports Injury Center is skilled in safe and effective methods for children.
As with all health conditions, early detection is the key to success. It's a good idea to have children checked periodically for proper spinal health. Just as you would want your dentist to assure proper health and development of the teeth, so too, should the chiropractor check to assure proper health and development of the spine.
Scoliosis
Whether the result of an infant or childhood trauma
or a hereditary problem, scoliosis is the sideways curving of the spine, resulting in uneven shoulders, distorted hips and even severe pain as the condition worsens. Scoliosis affects boys and, more frequently, girls between the ages of 8-18.
A thorough examination helps detect scoliosis in its early stages so corrective action can begin at once.
A program of specific chiropractic adjustments helps improve the function and structure of the spine, strengthens muscles and improves posture.
Dr. Korchok's approach is to use safe, specialized adjustment techniques that produce excellent success.
Chiropractic care has helped many youngsters avoid the unpleasant and unhappy effects of scoliosis, and avert the need to use unsightly braces or drastic, invasive surgical procedures.
Backpack Safety
Imagine leaving for work every day carrying a couple of 10-pound bags of sugar or flour strapped to your back.
You wouldn't think of doing that, would you? Yet, every day, we send our children to school with the equivalent of that on their backs, or, more likely, flung over one shoulder. It's called a backpack, and every school child carries one every day.
More than 40 million teens carry a backpack every day
often lifting and hauling 30 to 40 pounds of books and other items around with them.
It's no wonder that backpack-related injuries are on the rise.
A heavily loaded backpack, especially when worn improperly, puts kids off balance, promotes poor posture, causes numbness and muscle soreness, increases low back and shoulder pain, and could threaten spinal development.
It's important that your child carry no more than 10 to 15% of their body weight in a backpack.
Here are some tips
Distribute the weight of the backpack evenly
it should rest in the middle of your child's back, not extend past the low back.
Match the size of the backpack to the size of the child
Adjust the straps so your child can easily put on and remove the backpack, and have free movement of their arms
Put heavier items on the bottom of the backpack
Make sure your child uses both straps, and doesn't carry the backpack over one shoulder
Choose a backpack with padded shoulder straps and a lumbar support or cushion
Don't overload the backpack - carry only what is necessary
Make sure your child lifts the backpack properly, bending their knees to pick it up
Senior Care
Safe and natural chiropractic care is good for seniors, helping you enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle for years.
Even for those who have had back surgery or who suffer from osteoporosis can benefit from regular chiropractic care. Regardless of your age, regular chiropractic care can help prevent subluxation degeneration or spinal decay.
Early detection, regular chiropractic checkups and a healthy lifestyle can prevent, slow, stop or even reverse the early stages of spinal degeneration.
Dr. Korchok is an expert at developing a program of preventative care, designed especially for your needs, activity level and desired lifestyle.
Activities that you enjoyed during your adult years don't have to stop because of back pain
ask us how you can regain, or maintain, optimum spinal health for optimum living. A pain-free life through chiropractic health maintenance is your blueprint to active, happy and healthy senior years.
Rehabilitation & Excercise
The road to good health is a team approach.
Your health can be enhanced with rehabilitation techniques designed for you to continue at home. Our office will help design specialized instructions to help promote stability of your condition, increased strength and improved motion and performance. We strive to get you well and then, keep you well.
Many sports injuries and work-place injuries are of a non-surgical kind, and often develop from overuse or repetitive motion.
Chiropractic care is beneficial in treating the kinds of injuries and ailments that affect ankles, knees, shoulders, elbows, wrists and neck. Whether you're an athlete on the playing field, or an "industrial athlete" in your workplace, you need to perform in top condition without worrying about recurring injuries.
And if you have had surgery
we can help design a rehabilitation program specifically for the target area, and help you continue your recovery quickly and efficiently.
We are also proponents of physical fitness
one of the key components to lifelong good health. Proper exercise, done regularly, will help strengthen your heart, increase your circulation, make your joints more flexible and your bones stronger, make your skin firmer, delay the aging process, promote weight loss, and help you get through the day without fatigue. A balanced exercise regimen can have many other benefits, too.
We'll help you get started, and help you stay motivated.
Nutritional Counseling
The importance of good food should not be taken lightly. Proper nutrition is important for everyone, and is a great asset in the prevention of disease. It is essential to your body's proper functioning and growth, and important for your whole family.
You can help yourself by following a sensible diet based on the elements of good nutrition.
Eliminate junk foods, preservatives and refined foods. Eat high-quality, natural foods including plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Drink fresh juices and eat whole grains, nuts, seeds and high-quality protein. Use a moderate amount of fats and oils, and limit your intake of coffee, tea, sugar, sodas and alcohol.
As part of our efforts to help our patients attain higher levels of health and wellness, we offer diet and nutritional evaluation services.
Many patients are concerned about the quality of foods available and the effects of various foods on their well-being. Dr. Korchok has designed several strategies to prevent and manage some of the most prevalent degenerative conditions of our day, and to address the foremost anti-aging and health concerns on the minds of our patients.
We back that up with educational support and patient education materials.
After all, we want to help keep you in the prime of your time. Contact us for more information, and let Dr. Korchok and his team design the nutritional blueprint for your body's good health.

One of the greatest honors we can receive is the endorsement of our patients. Read what some of our patients have said about us, and their treatment at our clinic. I brought my daughter in for treatment of her headaches and neck pain. I love how professional but caring Dr.Korchok is with her. The results are splendid! I couldn't ask for anything more! Our experience has been wonderful. Like a big family.
Linda G.
I sought care at The Chiropractic & Sports Injury Center of Cincinnati upon the recommendation from my husband who is a patient, for my lower back and neck pain. I was impressed that things were well explained. My results were fantastic! I have been able to resume all of my activities. Being a person that doesn't like doctors, my experience has been a comforting, professional atmosphere in which everyone is so very helpful and caring. I look forward to my visits instead of dreading them!

In 2002, I suffered from sciatica, but I continue to come in whenever I need a "tune-up" whether its for my hips, knees or back bothering me. My questions are always answered and Dr. Korchok provides me with treatment tips I can do at home. My results are great! I continue to come in so that my sciatica doesn't come back and to deal with my other aches and pains. I am greeted by the cheerful staff and I usually don't have to wait. Dr. Mark and the staff provide the TLC that I need.

After a year of seeing a neurologist for my two-year-old son's seizure-like episodes, a friend suggested that I take Andrew to see a chiropractor. After just a couple of months of adjustments, my son is no longer showing any signs of these episodes. We are so thankful to everyone at The Chiropractic & Sports Injury Center of Cincinnati. Your caring attitude, helpfulness, patience, and kindness mean a lot to us. Thank you, Dr. Korchok and staff, for making our time with you enjoyable as well as productive!

When I first came to see you in the fall of 2002, I did so because of recurrent pain in my lower and upper back, which was aggravated by my tennis activity and my continual lifting of heavy flight bag/luggage demanded by my occupation. As this injury was not new, and because I like to play competitive tennis, I decided to see you largely because I was in pain, could get in immediately and, most importantly, because your office offered on-site x-rays. At the time, all I really wanted to hear was that I didn't have some kind of serious spinal disorder. When we met during that first visit, what impressed me the most, besides your courteous and respectful office staff, was your willingness to spend a considerable amount of time educating me and my family about Chiropractic. We talked about the likely causes of my pain, and you addressed, at length and in great detail on a level we could understand, our many questions and concerns. I was also impressed by the numerous adjustments you gave me during that visit. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the pain in my upper back was completely gone when I left your office that afternoon. As the treatments/therapies continued, I was able to see improvements in my strength and flexibility, and I became completely pain-free within two weeks. While all of these things are desirable, the best part for me, as a competitive athlete, was having my own confidence in my body restored. It's impossible to compete effectively when one is afraid to give 100% effort for fear of re-injuring oneself. I'm 43 now, and I'm playing better tennis, and hitting the ball harder, than I did in my mid-twenties! You've made a believer out of me! Thanks for all of your help.
Michelle T. and family
I think I can speak for my whole family when I say that the Chiropractic & Sports Injury Center of Cincinnati has become a part of our lives. I first came to Dr. Korchok when we moved to Cincinnati in the summer of 2001, in need of back alignment after the birth of our second daughter Lauren. Before the children were born I was a classical ballerina, then moved on to be an actress, so I am very aware of my body and feel when something is not right. Dr. Mark got me back on track and I can honestly say I have never felt better. It is so important to be aligned. It really determines whether you are going to have a good day or a not-so-good day. I even took my two daughters to be aligned. Vivienne was having breathing problems and after she was aligned, she was much better. Even her mood was better. My husband, Dominik, is pretty skeptical about everything, so his back had to be really OUT before I could get him to go see Dr. Mark. Now that he has had treatments, I can't keep him away. He feels so much better! He is a true case study of someone feeling miserable and not knowing why. He is now back on track and enjoying life to its fullest. Chiropractic care is a necessity in life, like taking your vitamins, exercising, getting enough rest and so forth. Do yourself a favor and visit Dr. Mark Korchok today. You're worth it!

The first time I came into the office it was for my back pain. I've since been treated for my bicycle injuries, neck pain and my frozen shoulder. Each time, everything is explained well, and my questions are always answered. My results are always good. Everyone is super nice and they all genuinely care about patients. I've seen folks here interact with other patients and they are just as friendly and caring with them. Everyone here make each patient feel special.
Sonja B.
My husband had neck and back issues, and said that Dr. Mark did a great job and was very caring and gentle and that I should go for my neck. Everything was thoroughly explained in an understandable way. Dr. Mark also discussed the cause of the problem, and how to improve my everyday activities. My results were good. My experience at Dr.Mark's office was awesome! The entire staff was extremely caring and thoughtful. They always greet you with a warm smile and by name! They are genuinely interested in you. I can always get an appointment the day that I call too, which is fantastic!
Mary M.
I came in to the office because of my arm pain. My treatment was good and the lotion that you recommended works well at home. My results are good and I am pain free. The office is always a friendly place to come.
Bob M.
I came in to see Dr. Mark because my back went out. I was told to take it easy for awhile. I am feeling better and walking straight now. I am always willing to come in for treatment.

Our Office Utilizes Graston Technique As A Safe And Effective Soft Tissue Mobilization Approach To Treating Many Soft Tissue And Repetitive Strain Injuries And Conditions
dr. mark korchok has completed extensive post graduate education and passed examinations to become a certified graston technique provider. he is one of over 18,000 clinicians worldwide that include physical and occupational therapists, hand therapists, chiropractic physicians and athletic trainers. dr. korchok has implemented graston technique to athletes of all levels of expertise from high school gymnasts to probeach volleyball athletes.
Graston Technique Is A Innovative, Patented Form Of Instrument-assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization
that enables dr. korchok to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions thereby restoring functional movement patterns, alleviating pain, and facilitating tissue repair. this technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation. the sensitivity of utilizing the stainless steel graston "tools" provides dr. korchok with improved diagnostic treatment and detects fibrotic changes to determine tissue elasticity and improvement. this increases overall patient satisfaction and achieves better outcomes.
The Curvilinear Edge Of The Patented Graston Technique® Instruments Combines With Their Concave/convex Shapes To Mold The Instruments To Various Contours Of The Body
this design allows for ease of treatment, minimal stress to the clinician's hands and maximum tissue penetration.
The Graston Technique® Instruments, Much Like A Tuning Fork, Resonate In The Clinician's Hands Allowing The Clinician To Isolate Adhesions And Restrictions, And Treat Them Very Precisely
since the metal surface of the instruments does not compress as do the fat pads of the finger, deeper restrictions can be accessed and treated. when explaining the properties of the instruments, we often use the analogy of a stethoscope. just as a stethoscope amplifies what the human ear can hear, so do the instruments increase significantly what the human hands can feel.

Your Condition
your nervous system controls and coordinates every cell, tissue and organ in your body. because chiropractic care focuses on the health of the nervous system, it can have a dramatic impact on your overall wellness and performance. while some people seek chiropractic care for pain or other obvious symptoms, others seek chiropractic care to maintain a healthy lifestyle and optimum performance in daily life, work and play. whatever your health concern, dr. korchok and his team can provide professional chiropractic care to suit your needs and wellness goals.
Lower Back Pain
lower back pain is one of the most common complaints, and affects those who are tall, short, heavy, thin, young and old. back pain can be the result of improper sitting, lifting, an injury, or an inherited abnormality. it can get worse from a sedentary lifestyle. left undetected, other conditions can result, such as damaged discs and irritated nerves. traditional approaches - bed rest, physical therapy, surgery or medication - are not as effective as specific chiropractic adjustments which help improve spinal function and correct the underlying cause of the problem. studies show that for many sufferers of low back pain, chiropractic care is safer and more effective than surgery, which is risky and has a high failure rate. patients who receive chiropractic care are often able to return to normal function and activity more quickly than other patients treated with standard medical treatments. the university of pittsburgh medical center (upmc), and the cleveland clinic are among many well-respected medical institutions that recommend spinal manipulation as a first line treatment intervention for lower back pain.
Headaches
headaches are not normal. life's stresses, toxic fumes, and other conditions are blamed for most headaches. a frequently overlooked cause is the stress or malfunction of the spinal bones in the neck and upper back, which can interfere with nerves and blood vessels to the head. many people find relief and correction with chiropractic care. chiropractors examine and locate areas of the spine that aren't moving properly. they check your posture, your ability to turn and to bend. chiropractic adjustments will help normalize spinal function, restore essential spinal curves, improve circulation and reduce nerve irritation. patients who receive chiropractic care report fewer and less severe headaches than before.
Arthritis
many people have been told they have "arthritis" of the spine or other joints. many times what people are actually suffering from is an area of the body that is succumbing to excessive wear and tear of a joint due to improper alignment. like the front end of a car out of alignment causing excessive wear and tear to the tires, our body shows signs of excessive wear and tear in joints that are improperly aligned. chiropractic care can be very beneficial in helping joints work with better motion and position.
Neck Pain
many things can cause neck pain - watching tv, using your computer, reading a book, falling asleep in a chair or on an airplane, talking on the telephone with the headset crunched between your ear and shoulder. your neck supports your 10 to 13 pound head, maintains a gentle forward curve to the spine and permits head rotation. it's got a major job to do, and it's no wonder that neck pain is a very common complaint. while a pain reliever, hot pack or a massage may help your neck feel better for a little while, it may not solve the underlying problem. the chiropractic approach is to locate that underlying cause, giving special attention to the upper spine, neck, and shoulders. a vertebral subluxation complex frequently causes neck pain. along with reducing or eliminating the pain, chiropractic care often results in greater freedom of motion and better overall health once the irritated nerves begin to heal.
Whiplash
whiplash is usually associated with automobile accidents, but it can occur in any situation that causes a sudden movement of the head backward, forward, or sideways. the result is torn or strained muscles and ligaments, and misalignment of the bones in the neck and spine. an immediate chiropractic examination is crucial. pain relievers won't heal inflamed tendons and ligaments, and muscle relaxers won't cure torn muscles. a cervical collar does nothing to restore a proper forward spinal curve. specific chiropractic spinal adjustments help restore normal motion and position to spinal structures so the body can heal the damaged tissues. chiropractic care also results in the reduction of inflammation and better healing overall.
Extremities
the chiropractic approach that works with the spine can be applied to other joints in the body. all of the 200-plus bones and associated joints and articulations in the body can lose their normal motion or position. joint damage from repetitive motion can result in pain, inflammation, and stiffness. referred to as "tennis elbow," "tmj," "runner's knee," or "carpal tunnel syndrome," these problems have traditionally been treated with pain medications, muscle relaxants, splints, and even surgery, often resulting in lifelong chronic pain and irritation. the jaw, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip and ankle can all be problem areas corrected with chiropractic care to restore normal motion, circulation, nerve function, and promote healing - without drugs or surgery.
Carpal Tunnel
the hand pain and numbness of carpal tunnel syndrome is a frequent complaint. what most people don't realize is that the cause of the condition can lay elsewhere. it could be pinched nerves and impaired circulation in the carpal "tunnel" of the wrist. or, it's often a problem with nerves running through your neck and shoulder. chiropractic provides a thorough examination, plus safe, effective, non-surgical care for the cause of your particular type of wrist pain or hand numbness.
Disc
a spinal disc is a small cartilage pad located between the spinal bones. layers of fibrous tissues contain the soft, jellylike center. each disc acts as a connector, spacer and shock absorber for the spine. when they are healthy, spinal discs allow for normal turning and bending. like a wet sponge, a healthy disc is flexible. like a dried out sponge, an unhealthy disc is hard, stiff and can crack. spinal discs cannot "slip," as commonly thought, because of the way each disc is attached to the vertebra above and below it. however, spinal discs can be damaged through injury or improper lifting, or can deteriorate through lost circulation of joint fluids and nutrients. they can bulge, herniate, or rupture, causing painful pressure on the spinal cord and nerve roots and interfering with their function. through the restoration of proper position and natural motion, the effects of trauma and deterioration can be slowed, halted, or even reversed, and the healing process renewed. many chiropractic patients have avoided needless surgery or a dependence on pain medication.
Sciatica
the sciatic nerves run down the back of each leg, and when compressed or irritated, can cause severe leg pain. one of the most common sources of sciatic pain is actually found higher up, in the spine. when vertebrae and/or discs interfere with the sciatic nerve, the pain is felt in either or both legs. the pain usually worsens with prolonged periods of standing or sitting, or with extended bed rest. pain relievers cannot correct the nerve compression caused by a bulging disc, while physical therapy only exercises the unstable joints. surgery cuts away disc tissue or removes bone to make way for the nerve. sciatica is often the result of cumulative damage - years of poor posture or muscle tone, excess weight or spinal decay. then, something simple like bending over to pick up a newspaper can trigger an episode. the chiropractic approach is to restore the normal motion and position of the affected portions of the spine, reducing irritation to the affected nerves, and allowing the body to heal itself in that area.
